The Viral War of 2148

"Good morning, Commander Comm. You will find the Generals in the Command Center, waiting for your order" quipped the attendant as he laid out coffee and biscuits for the Supreme Commander. The confidence in his voice felt forced - and was forced. The Commander was known to dismiss and often deport workers who he thought lacked courage. Commander Comm grunted in response and stretched, not wanting to leave the comfort of his heated bed. But duty awaited, and today was a very important day. After months of traveling, his battalion had finally found a target to attack, and everything hinged on the initial few minutes of battle. Comm realised that very well, being a veteran in the field. He'd been around for thousands of years fighting numerous battles and transforming his once weak and small battalion into the much feared and potent unit it was today. He was now one of the most revered of the viruses.

Starting out in life as a soldier over a thousand years back, Comm had slowly progressed, finding new methods of attack, shielding and camouflage until he'd gained enough strength to form his own unit. Today, he oversaw several hundred millions of soldiers as he once had been, all eager to conquer and prove their might. The puny human had tried hard to break down the morale of his camp, often enough, with their preventive measures and deterrents but every hundred years or so, with much planning, his armies ravaged the human population with the latest in armament and continued to do so for years until the humans found ways to bring them under some sort of control. And then, it was back to hibernation - time to improve, invent new arms and train the soldiers into a killing machine.

Awake by now, and ready for battle, he leaped out of bed and got on his feet - a full 1100 nanometers in height, he towered over the entire rest of the population and was very well known for his fearsome abilities. With his faithful second in command Miss Leut, parts of his unit had been waging war against humanity in small pockets, killing many and instigating fear and prejudice - which he often found was too easy to be something to brag about. However, this time was going to be different. Thanks to globalisation, an increase in human carelessness and the latest and greatest in bioweapons, he had everything to finally put a nail in the coffin on human civilisation or at least set them back by a few years. He had the perfect first target too - careless, popular and rich, he was always surrounded by lots of potential victims and was known to be very foolish. Comm was sure that this was one person who would disobey the doctor's orders just to show he could.

He gathered his Generals, laid out battle plans and by noon was sitting in the decision room, ready to direct his troops. They had travelled all the way to the sweltering lands of India from the frigid lands of China, hitching rides on animals, birds and insects. It had been a perilous journey, one filled with uncertainties. He did not know if the carrier would be able to sustain them, or whether they'd be wiped off the map by the different immune systems they came in contact with. But it was time - they had survived the journey, and were now in a room with the first candidate - Lord Kar Lemonadeton Krishshire.

And this is how, the pandemic started. It was 2148, and the time was ripe for yet another war between the smallest and the best adapting species on planet Earth.
